Urgent Prayers

You say you need something to happen in your life with urgency. So you go to God with your requests. Before long, you are wondering why does it seem that everything you prayed for is happening so fast that you can barely catch your breath. The reason is very simple, you and God were in a agreement with your prayer requests, so now you must do your part--put some pep in your step! But you say, "I'm not ready..." Remember God's time isn't on your time.

You see we put an urgency stamp on prayers that we aren't willing to run toward. We can't keep it up, we run out of breath after the first 50 yards. God is moving ahead and leaving us behind! If we don't run behind our Father like a child does in order to keep up, we might feel like daddy is leaving us behind.

Some of you wanted God to move on your behalf years ago and now it is your season and you are dragging your feet. Taking your sweet time about making phone calls, mailing documents, signing paperwork, and more! What's the hold up? You asked God to do things and now you aren't ready? "Well I don't know, I mean is this real...is God really in the plan? I have to be sure. Maybe I should wait on it." Your period of waiting may have long been over. A good way to know whether this is your time is when you start looking around to see everything you are currently doing is coming to an end. There is no more opportunities but the one in front of you. No more advisers to talk to and speak positively about your situation. There is no one who will take you by the hand anymore. It's just you, God and the plan.

Don't pray daily if you aren't really ready for what God has in store. You wanted a better life and you got it. You wanted a better man and you got him. You wanted a wife and you got her. You wanted a better job, a nicer home, and on and on. Now you got it, so what are you waiting for? You keep dragging your feet and before you know it, that blessing that is here today will be gone tomorrow. Run the race.

Lonely? Remember to Pray

It's a lonely world when one is broken. People don't know how many tears you have cried behind closed doors. They smile and show their support to your face or cut your throat from behind your back. Yet, you have to be strong through it all. You have to save your dignity, swallow your pride, and balance your weight or you might fall.

It's a lonely world when the lights go out and everyone is in bed, except you. It's 3 a.m. and you are wondering if tomorrow will be a better day. There are times when you wish tomorrow never comes. You watch the sunrise and still you hurt inside, nothing has changed over night.

God seems so far away.

It is important at this very moment to build your faith in God. Talk to Him like you would a human being. It may seem foolish talking to an empty chair, but one positive thing about it, it doesn't argue, fuss or fight back.

Let God hear the cries of your spirit and then move on! Preoccupy yourself with the best that life has to offer. Do not put yourself in captivity by doing anything that would cause you to be dependent on the object, substance or thing. As you know, prescription medicines, illegal drugs, promiscuity, violent television, and ungodly books, just to name a few, may provide temporary relief, but in the long run you will have made a bargain with the devil. A price that you will pay with your life or the life of another in the short or long-term depending on how much life you got left.

Please remember to pray.

Thursday

Why doesn't God answer my prayers?

God does answers prayers; however, every prayer isn't always a good prayer. For example, prayers concerning material wealth may start off a blessing but end up a curse. Think about how many people win the lottery and wish they hadn't because every one now wants a piece of their pie! So God may have answered your prayer with silence. He may be allowing you to get your personal life or finances in order before he allows you to receive yet another person, place or thing in your life.

I can think of a time in my life where I was feeling angry as if nothing was going right and I felt that God wasn't listening. Then one day the Holy Spirit reminded me that God did answer my prayers. It may not have been in the way I anticipated they be answered, but they were including those he remained silent about. It was a good thing too, because if he had done what I thought he should have, I would have been in some serious trouble in both my personal and professional life.

The best prayers are those which praise God and thank him (since he already knows the desires of our heart anyway.) This doesn't mean we shouldn't ask for things, but what we should be concentrating on is a relationship with him and not necessarily on what he will do for us. Amen?

Small Prayers

A heavenly voice whispered
and showers of light rained upon a child's face.

A prayer had been answered
and the heavens applauded
relief.

Somewhere else another heavenly voice had spoken
pouring streams of light upon a child's soul.

Another prayer had been answered
and the heavens applauded
peace.

Carefully paced footsteps slowly came forth while the children's heads were bowed.
The spirit revealed love's offering
and the angels wept.

With glowing faces, the children's souls embraced their blessings.

Gratitude, appreciation, praise be to the Father!

Reconciled Past

I've left my past for I've come
face-to-face with my Lord.

I refuse to leave this world without
resolve and I refuse to carry the burden
of not saying sorry...

I'm asking for forgiveness
from innocent bystanders
caught in the cross fire
between my angels and my demons.

For my battles of war were
those of selfishness, idol worship,
vulgar talk, bad drink, promiscuity...

I saw the plagues of death
but escaped them
Thank God I'm still alive!

A Prayer for the Holiday Season & New Years

Dear Lord,

I thank you for the many experiences you have given me this year. You have changed my life in so many ways and I praise you for it. Thank you for taking the blinders off my eyes when I wanted to see things differently when it came to family, friends, acquaintances, and co-workers. Make a way for me to go into the new year free of burdens, resentments, and un-forgiveness. Replace these negative emotions with love, kindness, and serenity.

Thank you for the protection you keep giving me from all harm and danger. Thank you for the angels you put around me even when I have failed to acknowledge your presence. Lord teach me your ways so that I am never a burden to anyone, but a blessing.

Provide me with the wisdom and courage to share your word when I am speaking with others. Let people who come in contact with me see your light and not my darkness. Encourage me Lord when I feel down and heal me when I feel sick.

Lord you know that living this life at times can be a challenge for myself and others, so bless us with the hope, love and passion to live again!

We need you Lord! We need your peace, knowledge, money, healing, a place in heaven, and so many other things. So we ask in your Son's name Jesus to help us Lord, right now! We are waiting for you. We will no longer take any more steps that will cause us to fall out of your will as long as you are with us. Lord we need you to guide us!

Thank you Lord for listening to my prayer.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Friday

A Prayer for the Angry, Confused & Resentful

Dear Lord,

Forgive me for being angry yet again about something that could have been resolved in a different way. Teach me to be slow to anger. At times I so easily misunderstand what someone is trying to tell me. Sometimes I feel they are deliberately confusing me to get what they want. Lord you know the heart of man and woman deal with them accordingly. There are moments during the day that I resent people and wish that I could have a do-over again with my life. Help me to appreciate the people and choices I have made. In Jesus name, Amen.

Saturday

Let Us Pray...

Dear Lord,

Thank you for blessing me with ears to hear, a voice to speak, legs to walk, and so much more that I often take for granted. Thank you for sparing my life! For when I was down and out you were there when no one seemed to care about me.

I appreciate your wisdom, love, truth, and mercy. I know I don't deserve these things but because of your son Jesus that is why I am able to say, Aba Father! Thank you for adopting me into your kingdom. Lord, I want to have a closer relationship with you. I need to experience you just as I do when I am relating to humans. I need for you to speak a word over my life.

Lord, you know the money, relationship, family, work, health, and other struggles I am dealing with at this time in my life, I need for you to bless me with peace. I need to know what direction I must take in the near future to bring happiness to those affected by my decisions and not sadness.

Lord, I command your angels to come down upon those that I know and love and protect them from all harm and danger. Give them a discerning spirit to see trouble coming their way before it gets to them.

Let no weapon formed against me prosper from those who are jealous, angry, confused or bitter concerning me. I ask in Jesus name that you deal with my enemies according to your will.

Bless our government, churches, hospitals, businesses, and schools with the necessary knowledge to perform your will and be a benefit to all and not a burden. Teach those working in these establishments to be better stewards of your resources and have better attitudes about their service.

Thank you for listening to my prayers in Jesus name, Amen.

What You Need to Know About Prayer and Fasting Shut -Ins

Someone told you they will be participating in a prayer and fasting service that requires them to stay overnight in a church and asked you to join, so what can you expect if you are attending a "shut-in" like this?

A Prayer and Fasting Shut-In is a great way for believers to come together to pray for one another as well as community, national and international concerns. The doors are not actually locked and people are not shut in all day unable to leave the church. Instead, everyone is welcome to come and go when the prayer and fasting period begins. But this special event is called a "Shut-In" because believers will usually stay up all day and night in the church praying and meditating on scripture until they receive a spiritual breakthrough—more on this later.

Although unbelievers are welcome to this event, it may be better for them to attend a regular church service before committing to staying overnight in a church. Someone not use to praying, talking, dancing, singing, or laughing with God may be uncomfortable being in this kind of service. Also, no one is allowed to eat during this time in the sanctuary, those who must eat are asked to go outside of the church. The reason for this is so that one can focus on God not on eating. To fast means that you are willing to abstain from something you would normally take pleasure in such as food, television, Internet use, or entertaining family and friends. Prayer and Fasting Shut-Ins are not meant to last for months. A personal fast can last as long as 40 days in the Bible. The period of fasting and prayer has been known to produce great spiritual breakthroughs. Many believers report everything from miracles, signs, and wonders during this time.

Unlike regular church service, you will not be entertained, you will be expected to pray and worship God. Believers will hold up their arms, bow, fall to their knees, lie down on the church floor, sing and do other things that will be discussed later.

Before accepting an invitation to participate, know what kind of church denomination is partaking in this activity. You may find that you don't agree with the way the Shut-In is being handled or it may go against your spiritual beliefs, if so, it's best not to attend.

Basic information is revealed to all members of the church body such as the date, time, location, who is hosting the event, and how long it will last. If someone doesn't provide this information to you in advance and information is not readily available to you when you request it, don't go until you get specific details.

If you do receive a program about the Shut-In, a specific protocol should be mentioned. The information should state things such as whether talking in the sanctuary is allowed, how old should children be if they are welcome, and warnings about turning off or silencing your cell phone during the prayer period. Also, rules for when and where to eat should be mentioned and other details such as those with a medical condition must eat outside of the sanctuary so that they are not bothering others. Issues like these are all distractions that can hinder someone's spiritual experience. During this time, leadership may allow participants to bring desk work to the church, sleep, journal, and meditate.

Program information should also list what you will be praying about as a group and mention the times allotted for you to pray individually and with others about concerns. There is also free time given to you to leave if you have to or do other things like read, pray around the property, or socialize with other believers.

There may be other things that you will be fasting from during this time as well, find out if there are any other things the leadership will be asking of the congregation besides what is listed in the program. Be certain that what they say aligns with biblical principles. You should never feel pressured or coerced to do something that would not be deemed righteous.

Before you participate you may want to know if local transportation is nearby. You may ride to the church with someone and realize during the fasting period that the person chooses to stay longer while you would like to go home. Before you choose to ride with someone to the church, take the time to jot down the phone number of the local cab service or find out what bus you need to catch before you commit to going. Take your note and cell phone in case you need it.

There may be speakers present during the prayer and fasting period that you are unfamiliar with; you may want to find out who is on staff at the church and who will be leading some of the prayer services. Since no one who stands before you in or out of the church is perfect, pray that God gives you a discerning spirit to incorrect teaching, a tough skin to negative comments which unfortunately do come from leaders as well as laymen, and the courage to rebuke anyone who is out of order.

Since a Prayer and Fasting Shut-In may go on through the night, you will need to know what to bring with you to the event. Pillows, sleeping bags, blankets, water, and other items are usually acceptable.

Unlike a hotel room, there is no privacy; you will most likely be sleeping on chairs or on the floor. Lights are usually dimly lit but bright enough for you to see what's going on around you.

The church hosting the Prayer and Fasting Shut-In may be open to spiritual gifts then again they may not. This information is crucial to know before you participate because you may feel led to openly worship God, speak in tongues, or share a prophetic word, but those in leadership may not be flexible. If they aren't, you may want to reconsider attending a prayer and fasting event that restricts the move of God. Spiritual gifts are signs of the presence of the Holy Spirit refer to the Book of Acts.

Creating an atmosphere to usher the presence of the spirit is acceptable. According to Biblical scripture men fasted and waited on God, see Romans Chapter 5. They also were blessed by God with various spiritual gifts. Although some people have more or less gifts, all are used by God, read I Corinthians 12. If there is a special gift from God you are hoping to receive, a Prayer and Fasting Shut-In is the perfect place to request it. However, avoid the temptation to be critical of others, mock, curse, or debate. People who cause unnecessary disturbances will be asked to leave.

When the opportunity is given to participants to share testimonies, prophetic words, songs, and other spiritual things, you will want to ask the leadership how long do you have to speak. Keep in mind that others will be listening, learning, and having a need to say something, so keep what you share brief. If you need more time, ask for it.

Sometimes the power of the spirit is so strong it may knock you off your feet, if this should happen you will want to know if there will be anyone around to cushion your fall or you may want to look out for others. There should always be someone watching to be sure no one hurts themselves.

Strange things tend to happen during any event that is hosting the presence of God, so with that said you will want to know basic things like where are the exit doors (if it becomes overwhelming for you or if an emergency situation should occur) and if there will be security present if someone or something gets out of hand.

For more information on Prayer and Fasting Shut-ins or starting one yourself, mention this article to your church leadership and print others about hosting such an event at your church. God bless!

What's Inside of Me?

Created, manifested, edited, and rearranged
my life story
to try to fit
what others said I should become!

Thought about a butcher, a baker and a candlestick maker
from a storybook of long ago.

Heard someone say a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, and an athlete
I knew that wasn't for me.

So I went to God to confirm my identity,
my destiny
meanwhile the world says
"you can't be rich."

So I kept my dream under lock and key for awhile
as I pursued what man said was best for me.

Told me my success was measured by dollars and cents
wouldn't ackowledge me as an expert without letters
didn't think much of me when I couldn't drive metal
said I was breaking the rules if I went off course.

Oh there is a river of words within me
streaming out daily
for I cannot rest
until I do my best
until I write my last word
until I give my last breath...

Can't leave it up to God to tell my story
that's why he called me
front page news give God the glory!

My name will be...
My Father I am
the first and the last
oh how they will remember me!

My face on television
the wealthy will speak my name!
My children will call me blessed
for I am highly favored
bought with a price
more than a conqueror
through Christ who strengthens me!

For seeds I have sown for so many years
are sprouting green because of my tears!
The ground beneath me a solid rock I stand
no devil in hell can shake me!

My blessing will be running over
my house will have more room than I need
my car will shine
and someone out there will call me "mine."

Then I will reflect on this day
of how he blessed me with an idea
that sold millions
that delivered thousands
that appointed hundreds
for many are called
but chosen are few.

So I wait...and I wait
as God serves me my plate
and I will feast in the presence of mine enemies.

God will restore what was stolen from me
God will bless me like he did Job
a new day is coming...
"God grant me the serenity..."
I remember the note I posted upon my wall
and the time will come that I will need it!

For the crowds are on their way
the lights will be flashing
the pain of not having enough
will be far gone from my head!

My heart will no longer be heavy
my children won't have to hear "no"
and God, oh yes God...will answer my prayers!

7 Things You Should Pray For Often

The following seven things are the most important things you should pray about when speaking with God. As you will see in the Bible, prophets prayed for these things and supernatural miracles happened for many of them. When you feel up or down in your life, pray. A healthy spiritual life is key to combating the perils of this life. May the following seven prayer requests renew you in mind, body, and spirit.

One. Healing and health is what sustains us each day. Without being healed from a sickness you can’t be of much help to someone else. When you are not ill, it is best to thank God for the health you already have and remember someone who may not be doing so well with his or her health.

Two. Wisdom is what you will need in whatever you do. How can you know what to do in a situation when you have no knowledge? Sometimes a book to read, conversing with someone, or Internet research is simply not enough. You may have to look to something greater than man or thing to get the answers you need to solve your problems.

Three. Protection from harm and danger is essential when you fear what you don’t know. How do you know when you leave your home today, you will be coming back without injury, better yet, alive? How do you know that your adventure seeking family member will come back safe after challenging his fate yet again? These are experiences that happen to people often and wouldn’t it be nice to know that someone cares enough to pray?

Four. Family and friends and anyone you come in contact with on a daily basis. Most people don’t realize that when they share a problem with a friend, subconsciously they are looking for something more than sympathy. They want answers and encouragement. The next time someone tells you about their aching back or troubled relationship secretly pray for them.

Five. Prosperity financially, spiritually, and mentally. There is absolutely nothing wrong with praying for a financial increase, spiritual renewal, or mental strength to handle the next challenge set before you. If you can ask someone for money, seek a psychologist for mental health, or sit down and listen to a minister counsel you, then why not ask God first?

Six. The ability to see signs and wonders. God is still blessing millions of people with miracles. If you need him to give you a sign your situation is already being handled by Him, then why not ask for a sign? However, you will need to pray the following to be sure that the sign you are awaiting for is not a trick from the evil one.

Seven. Discernment. Too many people go into situations not knowing who is friend or foe. Wouldn’t you like to know who indeed is on your side at work? What family member really doesn’t love you? And why certain people seem to always be around you when you need them? The only way you will be able to see the goodness as well as the evil in some people is by praying for the gift of discernment. However, a gift like this isn’t dispensed to everyone, only God’s chosen and the only way you can become one of God’s people is if you accept Him. Easier said than done.
