Let God in the Church

Spiritual
not religious
won't join
won't sign
refuse to tow yet another man's line.

Brought up issue after issue,
contradictions,
no excuses.
Realize His power,
causes grown men
to cower.

Forget what the people say,
Remember what God say.
Pressure from others,
who claim to be "Mothers"
They will control your life
when weak to strife.

Go here, go there,
some walk around
and stare.

Another new face
walked into their place,
they assume ignorance,
predict disgrace.

Clean dirty floors,
open church doors.
Read from the Holy Book,
give credit for what you took.

Saw a preacher man scream
and shout, the same man
seeking clout.

Saw a woman shake then
fall, got up and stood real tall.

Saw a child cry while wishing to leave,
parents in trouble--they grieve.

When the Holy Ghost is brought in,
people will walk away from sin.

People give to get,
refuse to forget,
let God, God let,
tell the people
who you met.

Poem: Don’t Hate the Church by Nicholl McGuire

Didn’t like what they said
Or how you were fed
Told you to pick up your own bed
Didn’t like where you were led

I get it.

Found a way to release the bitterness within
Found a way to justify your own sin
Now you have a heart like tin.

Criticize me for the words that I preach
Call yourself trying to teach
with a contract breach?

Said you would draw people near to our Lord
But it seems you are cutting people with his sword.

You see pain can make one go insane.
Talk about things in a negative way,
all the while forgetting to pray.

Now I didn’t want to be the one to offend,
but seriously brother you need to look at your own sin.
Standing before the masses while giving homeboys passes.

A signal hear, while hiding a tear,
where exactly is your fear?

The Father is waiting while you are baiting.
But you are too busy thinking about the next one you’ll be dating.

You put yourself in a position to hand hold with a Christian,
while hiding your own personal mission!

Your hopes and dreams you played out one day,
when you talked real long, but with no biblical verses to say.

Oh, but people clapped and clapped for you,
And said, “I wish long ago I met someone like you.”

Grabbing up the praise,
walking around in a daze.
You start doing what your enemies do,
living a life that isn’t necessarily true.

So what is God to do?
Post you up in front of others,
seat you before skeptical brothers.
Ask you to walk right
in the public’s sight.
But you can’t walk alone, nope, not without the Savior,
and definitely not without some favor.

You, like so many, will learn the hard way,
When you’re on your knees kneeling down to pray.

Watered Down Gospel from Watered Down Ministers

If I haven't mastered something myself, then I stay away from the subject area until I have mastered it. If I can't get my act together in one area, I can't afford to stand before a congregation of people and say, "Oh yeah, church I'm good!" I wonder if self-proclaimed ministers of God think this way before telling others what they ought to do in their lives.

We have witnessed ministers of God preach a good message, but later find out in the media that they have relationship problems, sexual issues, and weird childhood fantasies. We are perplexed. How can they tell the world something when they don't have it together at home?  They do it by watering down truth.

See, there is no shame when one is not convicted by truth in all it's forms not only in the Bible but those miracles, signs and wonders in one's personal life too!  No one around this person will confront others with truth for fear that they might get kicked out of the minister's chosen group. Therefore, the minister gets away with lies and half-truths.

Anyone preaching any message out of the Holy Bible is a minister with or without a title. That is why one must watch what he or she says and does around others. Are we watered down ministers with a watered down message spreading it to a watered down flock? If so, then we are held accountable.

Preaching messages that deviate from God's warnings in his Holy Bible to lost, back slidding men and women is wrong!  Skipping over text in the bible so as not to offend is wrong!  Re-wording scripture so that it is easy for people to follow is wrong too!  God's word is simple enough without adding to it weak commentary.

It isn't any wonder why there is no staying power with the new Christian at a conference who gets saved.  What I mean by staying power is a desire for a new Christian to continue to maintain a personal relationship with Christ.  A new believer doesn't stay with a powerless group of watered down Christians. How can he keep attending church services with watered down messages that don't prosper him spiritually, physically and/or mentally? Who wants to continue to fellowship with weak-minded believers who are more interested in what you have on, then what you are saying?

If you are a minister, don't ask why people don't stay with God after attending your services. Could it be that you are more interested in growing the flock rather than tending to it in such a way that makes the flock want to go out and spread God's word? Maybe, for some ministers, it is more important to keep the flock at home, because if you do, the money will stay home as well.

Just something to think about.

Let Us Pray...

Dear Lord,

Thank you for blessing me with ears to hear, a voice to speak, legs to walk, and so much more that I often take for granted. Thank you for sparing my life! For when I was down and out you were there when no one seemed to care about me.

I appreciate your wisdom, love, truth, and mercy. I know I don't deserve these things but because of your son Jesus that is why I am able to say, Aba Father! Thank you for adopting me into your kingdom. Lord, I want to have a closer relationship with you. I need to experience you just as I do when I am relating to humans. I need for you to speak a word over my life.

Lord, you know the money, relationship, family, work, health, and other struggles I am dealing with at this time in my life, I need for you to bless me with peace. I need to know what direction I must take in the near future to bring happiness to those affected by my decisions and not sadness.

Lord, I command your angels to come down upon those that I know and love and protect them from all harm and danger. Give them a discerning spirit to see trouble coming their way before it gets to them.

Let no weapon formed against me prosper from those who are jealous, angry, confused or bitter concerning me. I ask in Jesus name that you deal with my enemies according to your will.

Bless our government, churches, hospitals, businesses, and schools with the necessary knowledge to perform your will and be a benefit to all and not a burden. Teach those working in these establishments to be better stewards of your resources and have better attitudes about their service.

Thank you for listening to my prayers in Jesus name, Amen.

Is God whipping or empowering believers?

Too busy to give thought to this question, I understand. But for those who enjoy thinking philosophically, I ask, is the God you serve whipping or empowering his church?

I have personally witnessed God's action and inaction on a personal and professional level in my own life. He has blessed me at the right time to receive something I may have not been ready for during times when I was being whipped. You see, I believe he whips and empowers. I know for some teachers and counselors they don't believe that God whips, but only empowers. If that is the case, then I pose these questions, "Why would there be a need for hell in his Bible, why would he take Job through struggles, kill many Israelites who were in route to the Promise Land, and deal with Adam and Eve in the way that he did?" People were getting whipped in the Bible whether they deserved it or not for purposes that we don't completely understand and it still happens to this day!

Sometimes the empowerment comes from the whipping. Let me repeat that, sometimes the empowerment comes from the whipping! Just like children who disobey their parents' wisdom and face punishment, so do we. The cost at times is very high from losing money to losing a life. Even with all the losses, some people never learn from their mistakes or "on purposes" if you know what I mean. They like to cover up the whipping with blame, false stories, hide, fake smiles and so on. But I know better, I see a whipped woman or man of God a mile away. You can say, "You are blessed and highly favored of the Lord" all you want, but when God whips people especially Christians we can all see it. When I got whipped God called me to write a book about it then turned it around for his glory, wonder what he will do with some of you hiding from his word?

I am amazed at the awesome blessings God gives people and how they are quick to raise their hand and say, "I did it!" What did they really do? A situation that seemed impossible suddenly comes through with a phone call or some cash and the nerve of some people to take credit for a situation that only hours maybe even days ago kept one up worried. "Please pray for me..." they say. Sad, how some have faith in God when nothing seems to be going their way then later have faith in self when everything is going their way.

I don't think God likes this attitude either because just as quick as one feels good about self, notice how he or she often comes down just as fast! God really does want to empower us, but are we ready? Do we pay attention to the writing on the wall? He uses people, places, and things to warn us of impending trouble but yet we argue about what we see, feel, hear, and read. "That's not God...God wouldn't do that...I don't believe God would...That's nothing but the devil..." The truth is the devil doesn't have the power to whip us if God isn't giving him the belt.

I think of those that I have talked to about health issues, money problems, relationship drama, and many other challenges that keep some up late at night and I hear the same thing, "I just want...I need for you to pray...why is God doing this..." Sometimes we can stop most whippings if we change our mindset. Rather, look at the wonderful things of God and act like it (Galatians Chapter 5 for starters.) Instead, many people focus on the negative reported on the following:  TV, radio, Internet, books, and lips who tear others down! It's like looking at a painting, you can either see the line and the dots in the middle of a white board and call the painting ugly, or you can see what looks like hills and raindrops and call it beautiful.

Your life is in the eye of the beholder -- in this case yourself and God. If an individual presents him or herself before God, the world and (of course) self, as nothing more than a gossip, a liar, a thief, a cheat, ugly, crazy, loud, or something else, then expect all the drama and whippings that go along with the negative perception.  Chances are some of you know someone like this and they aren't proud of who they are, that is why they are giving you so much grief! They spend an awful lot of time in everyone else's business. But if an individual presents him or her self, as a child of God, with a purpose, positive, productive, loving, and other positive qualities (irregardless of one's age, what he or she looks like, etc.) then that is what the world will see and so will God!

When you feel good about who you are in Christ, you are therefore empowered to go the distance, but when you find yourself weak and can't stand up against the enemy schemes then God doesn't have to whip you; instead you are whipping yourself.  Consider this, Jesus already took many beatings for you and me.  Don't beat yourself up about people, places and things!  Just do better the next time.  Pray, repent and keep it moving!

The way you choose to see yourself (flaws and all) is up to you.  Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder and the God you serve sees himself in you!

For those of you struggling with seeing the beauty in you, know that you must labor to love yourself.  I wrote "Laboring to Love Myself," a poetry book that reaffirms this point.

Money Makes the Church Go Round

I had my head in the sand
when I held the paper in my hand.

It said "to come and visit me!"
I had to go couldn't wait to see!

There were smiling faces
more than in other places.

The Cross displayed proudly on a wall
The Bible, like Humpty, had a great fall!

For the anointed man didn't read from the Book.
Instead he passed the basket around
for he was a crook.

Winked to the drum man
looked at the choir
They were a part of his desire.

More money for him
More money for them.

The people danced.
The children pranced.

Nickels, dimes, pennies too!
He didn't care Gentile or Jew.

They say, "The preaching was real good!"
He didn't say a word that he should!

Monday

And It Too Came To Pass...

It came to pass and you won’t call.
An issue of right and wrong, this is not.
An issue of fortune-telling and psychic
ability this is not.

Your life, my life if I don’t tell
is at stake...God told me.
But you don’t believe...
and it came to pass
now you won’t call.

I guess you can handle it all
by yourself. My season is finished
and yours has just begun.

Does the enemy have your hands
tied behind your back and tape
over your mouth?

It came to pass and you doubted.
You told me God doesn’t speak that often.

God doesn’t, God won’t, God hasn’t...
and it too came to pass.

Dedication to Baby

Baby cry out.
You live.
You die.

A world, cold.
Warm us with your smile.

Touch us with your love
Help us find God.

Grow.
Tell us what you know
A piece of paper crinkled in tiny palms.

Separation Between Church and State

Martin drew a line between us
when he told me I talked about
God too much.

Sarah drew a cross between us
when she agreed with me
that God disappeared from the
hearts of many.

Tina didn’t want to hear it
so she walked away.

Fooled Clergy

He doesn’t want the earth’s trash.
He doesn’t want the broken,
tattered, shredded or torn.

He wants you - he wants me.
The leaders all around who play
hide-’n-go-seek.

The self-righteous, proud,
confused and ignorant.

The clergy who pass by
wrapped in covenant.

They can’t see
the cross has blocked their view
and everyone is a devil, of course
not them, but you.
